This image is from Cody Roberts’ fine art photography collection “Spirits of the Sea.” This limited edition print series focuses on the raw, untamed power of Hawaii’s biggest waves and the brave athletes who surf them. During the largest swell of the decade, waves at Pe’ahi reached over 60-feet in height. The winds were fierce, creating a formidable challenge for the surfers, yet for Cody it was an element of surprise that created such beautiful art. Gallons of ocean mist sprayed off the back of each breaking wave, illuminated by the golden light of the setting sun. These rare perspectives captured from a private helicopter, reveal the spirits of the sea that entrancingly danced over the Pacific.
